To the editor:
To Dr. James B. Hutt Jr., whose letter on gun controls appeared in your issue of January 8. 1981. 1 say. “Right On”.
I. too. have noticed in recent weeks the cynical attempts in the news media to exploit the recent deaths of prominent persons by conning the compassion of the people.
If the "gun control crowd" were as enthusiastic about handing out stiffer sentences for violent crimes committed with firearms as they are about disarming the citizenry. then their credibility would be increased somewhat. They are not.
Dr. Hutt's example of the Nazis' early move to control arms internally could be extended to the cases of almost every dictator or tyrant who has ever raped the Goddess of Liberty. I have lived abroad and personally know of some of the other cases at first hand. Among them Trujillo of the Dominican Republic and Perez-Jimenez of Venezuela. I suggest the reader check to see if the Russians control guns, if the Marxist Sandinistas in Nicaragua control guns and if Castro controls guns in Cuba.
If laws are ever passed to strip the citizenry of their weapons without first repealing the Second Amendment to the U. S. Constitution, those who continue to keep and bear arms will not be the outlaws; the gun controllers will be. whoever they are and whatever positions they occupy.
