Once the young horses are old enough to ride, Marion takes over. Before she left for UVa last fall, she spent all summer and practically every afternoon that wasn’t filled with extra-curricular activities at Rappahannock High School either in the saddle, in the barns or in the fields.
She graduated straight from her first hobby horse to Tom Thumb. Marion and her pony brought home hundreds of ribbons from area shows before she moved up to Black Sand, a triple crown winner on both sides by Citation out of p War Admiral mare. Marion showed her in equitation, jumping and sidesaddle classes, gathering in red, white and blue ribbons by the arm full.
"Scout About was the nicest horse I've ever had, the only one I raised from a baby—I was the only person who ever road Scout.” Marion said. She sold the four-year old chestnut gelding last year when she went away to school. “He went to a good home. I only sell my horses to good homes." she emphasized.
