After a long executive session Monday morning, the Rappahannock school board announced the appointment of Margarita Piper as elementary principal to replace Graham Spencer who resigned earlier this month.
Piper served as assistant principal of the elementary school for the 1980-81 year.
A native of Lynchburg, she received her bachelor’s degree in education from Mary Wahsington College in Fredericksburg and her eduation specialist and master’s degrees from the University of Virginia.
Piper taught second and third grade for five years at Sycamore Park Elementary School in Culpeper and was director of the reading lab there for another five years.
Before entering the field of education, whe spent 14 years with C&P Telephone at the utility company’s Washington, D. C. office, first as service representative, then administrative assistant to the division manager and finally as manager of the training and business offices.
Between her stint at C&P and the start of her teaching career, she spent eight years at home rearing a family.
