The 25th annual Rappahannock County Invitational Labor Day Mixed Double Handicap Whistlecup Tennis Tournament will be staged this year on five local courts, according to Mrs. Marta Tholand, permanent chairman of the venerable event
The tournaments actually began in 1965. but as Mrs. Tholand explains, "twentyfive is such a nice round number.” In the early years, all matches were played at the Tholand home, Piedmont. south of Sperryville. As the tennis-playing population has increased, the tournament has expanded.
