Estabrook also reported that new procedures for recruiting teachers were producing results. In the area of special education, he said “It’s very, very difficult to get viable candidates,” but the new procedures had “generated over 20 candidates.”
The board also learned the new administration had arranged to have Dr. Terry Grimes, a special education specialist from Virginia Tech, come to Rappahannock and go over all special education programs. She reported Rappahannock was in excellent shape in complying with the law.
With Eastham abstaining, the board voted to apply to Richmond to have Title I funds not spent last year carried over to this year’s budget. Lynne Baines, representing the teachers, asked the board to clarify its intentions regarding hospitalization for teachers.
