contributor to the center from Rappahannock County has been Herbert Barksdale. He showed me around the partially-completed Center and explained why this project is of such interest to him.
“I came here in 1929 as the Extension Agent,” he said. "I was lucky enough to stay here in the county ever since. I’ve seen many of the young 4-H club members graduate from 4-H and go on to become fine, responsible citizens. I really think that it makes a difference."
Barksdale got involved in the construction of the new Center when the president of VPI called him and asked him to serve on the governing body of the Center. Since then he has helped in many ways, from fund-raising to cultivating community contacts.
The main building has a kitchen, sleeping quarters and the offices of the present staff—George M. Tedrick, the director; Norabelle Comer, the officer manager; . and Sally Lupton, a clerk. typist.
