Outstanding secretary of all the blue ribbon winners was Jackie Settle.
June 1981
4-H Camp
June was an important month for Rappahannock County 4-H‘ers who attended either the overnight or the day camps. The overnight camp was held at Hazel River and included the Extension Office staff as well as the older 4-H members who acted as junior leaders.
Youngsters at the camp had carnivals, sing-alongs, craft classes, nature classes, swimming, hiking and other sports as well as the experience of being away from home for most of a week.
The 4-H Day Camp, also held at Hazel River, provided fun, games and classes for a horde of county youngsters. Director Birgitt Thornhill, Rappahannock’s Home Agent, was assisted by Debbie Mills in planning and directing the camp. Other adults lending a hand were Elsie Gheen, Rappahannock Extension Agent Rapley Owings, Irvin Kenyon, Jim Bankston, Rena Mae Jenkins, Marsha Thompson, Ron Wiley, Linda Owings and Martha Kidwell. 1
Junior leaders Kathryn Davis, Kristie Johnson, Craig Kenyon, Michael Shanahan, Jim McCullough, Natalie Butler, Raynetta Gheen, Jon McCullough, Marie Davis and Scott Keithley assisted in the classes, and in between organized kickbatl, baseball and sing-albngs.
