A special exhibit entitled L*Anse aux Meadows: A Norse Settlement in the New World will be featured at the Thunderbird Museum in Front Royal from October 2 to November 1. The exhibit illustrates the evidence of a settlement of Norsemen or Vikings in Newfoundland about 1000 AD.

The site is the first in North America where Norse remains have been discovered and documented. The sod dwellings and workshops at L’Anse aux Meadows are the earliest known European structures in the New World and the site itself is the scene of the first encounter between native Americans and Europeans.
