Tedrick is well-qualified to conduct an operation of this kind. His skill at supervising construction and handling large groups was learned in the Army, where he served for 10 years, and as a teacher at R a nd 61 ph - M aeon Academy in Front Royal for a total of 11 years, both before and after his Army days.
He was raised and educated in Front Royal in county schools and at Randolph-Mason and VPI. He was hired in October 1978 as director of the new 4-H Center.
Since then, he has supervised the completion of two buildings, the road leading into the Center and more than five miles of water and sewer lines, as well as conducting programs for those staying at the Center and dealing with the day-today correspondence, meetings, and fund-raising activities that his job entails.
Both Tedrick and Barksdale want to encourage local 4-H clubs to come out and make use of the Center. “Sometimes groups come out here on weekends just to walk around and have a picnic,” Tedrick said. “I really enjoy having them here. No matter what else I have to do, for me it’s the kids who make it all worthwhile.”
