After deliberating for an hour late Tuesday afternoon, a jury found Ernest Lee Douglas guilty of maliciously shooting Peter Marx in an incident that occurred in November, 1979, and sentenced him to 15 years in the the penitentary, suggesting that he also receive psychiatric help.
The two day trial threatened at times to turn into a three ring circus. In almost 12 hours of testimony that Douglas' court appointed attorney termed “incredibly unusual, incredibly different and incredibly bizarre," the jury heard allegations that former President Jimmy Carter, Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, the Rockefeller family and other high ranking U. S. officials were involved in a communist conspiracy to establish a oneworld socialist government.
Before the lunch recess oa Monday, Douglas admitted shooting Peter Marx but justified his actions on the grounds that he was making a citizen's arrest of the victim for his part in that communist conspiracy and for a long list of other alleged felonies, including attempted murder, blackmail and perjury.
According to Douglas, Peter Marx is not really Peter Marx at all; he’s Johii. ■ David Marks, a former agent of the Central Intelligence Agency. In addition, Douglas said. Peter Marx is also Daniel Elisberg of Pentagon Papers fame and might also be Peter Bourne, former head of the President's Council on Drug Abuse, and Mortin Halpren, director of the Center for National Security Studies.
