Unemployed workers from Rappahannock County who are looking ror jobs will have to travel to the Virginia Employment Commission office in Falls Church as of February 1. The Culpeper VEC office which serves the five counties of Rappahannock, Fauquier, Culpeper, Madison and Orange is among 15 Virginia Employment Commission facilities scheduled to close by the end of January, casualties of federal budget cuts. The closings will abolish 305 jobs, including eight permanent and four temporary positions in Culpeper.
After the Culpeper closing. Rappahannock. Culpeper and Fauquier residents will be served by the VEC office in Falls Church and Madison and Orange residents by the Charlottesville office.
Other VEC offices to be shut down by the end of January include Alexandria. Chesapeake. Covington, Emporia. Front Royal, Hampton, Manassas, Pulaski. South Boston. Suffolk. Virginia Beach, Waynesboro. Williamsburg and Wytheville. Cities which will maintain full service VEC offices are Bristol. Charlottesville.
