It was a year of departures: Supervisor chairman E. P. Luke resigned, board of zoning appeals member lames Massie declined to accept re-appointment, zoning administrator Evan McNear left the post he had held for 12 years, the positions of superintendent of schools, assistant superintendent. elementary principal and elementary assistant principal were all filled by new faces.
Newbill Miller quit the school board in response to an attorney general's ruling. Richard Latham announced he would decline reappointment te the welfare board and all but one member of the county's Water and Sewer Authority decided they'd had enough of Sperryville's problems with malfunctioning septic fields.
