6. Dispatch—Insisting that handling Rappahannock calls overloaded Culpeper's fire and rescue dispatch system, the Culpeper fire department, owners of the county's emergency communications equipment, announced last spring that Rappahannock will have to provide its own dispatch for units in Amissville. Flint Hill. Washington and Castleton. In September, the supervisors committed $5,000 for the local match of a grant application to the Rescue Squad Assistance Fund, and this month the county was awarded $11,600 from the state for procurement of dispatch communications equipment.
Staffing difficulties remain, however, since the grant is contingent upon having a dispatch center manned 24 hours a day and it appears that doing so will require 4‘/a full-time positions with the county responsible for costs.
7. Zoning Ordinance Review—After several years of talking about it. the county planning commission Finally began the comprehensive review and revision of Rappahannock's zoning and subdivision ordinances in 1981.
