On Monday, Rappahannock’s Water and Sewer Authority signed a contract with Buchart-Horn to design Sperryville’s sewer system but work will not proceed until the county supervisors guarantee that the money will be there to pay the engineers in the case that expected block grant and EPA funds fail to materialize.
The Authority has received formal notice from the State Water Control Board that Sperryville’s sewer system is ranked fifth in the state in priority 'Tor construction money funneled through the Environmental Protection Agency and is slated to get $1,417,0)00 in fiscal year 1983 which begins this October.
In addition, the WSA is applying for an additional $500,000 in community development block grant funds. With mandated sewer projects expected to be ranked high in funding priority by both the state and the planning district and with the majority of households to be served by the system falling in the low and moderate income range, Sperryville’s chances for securing an additional $500,000 in block grant funds are rated as excellent.
