Hank Gerhart, engineer with Buchart-Horn, acknowledged that the State Water Control Board and Health Department have not yet put the final stamp of approval on the facilities plan for Sperryville’s innovative collection system and conventional package treatment plant. He added, however, that he expects no problems. Gerhart also reported that both agencies have indicated willingness to consider the second phase of the project, final design work, simultaneously with the facilities plan in order to meet EPA’s deadline for funding approval.
The final design must be approved by October 1 in order to qualify for EPA’s $1.4 million construction grant in fiscal year 1983, according to the engineer. “To proceed and meet that deadline, we must begin design work on June 1."
Engineering costs include $68,903 for redesign of the collection system and conventional package treatment facility with special provisions for handling septic waste. Other necessary components for the design phase of the project can be
