Other points made during the jail tour included:

—the day room for prisoners must allow 35 square feet of space for each inmate.

— prisoners must have access to natural daylight. If this isn’t possible in the cells, then prisoners must spend most of their time in the day room.

—whether in an outdoor recreation yard or in the day room, prisoners must be under observation.

The supervisors informally authorized former county engineer Fanning Baumgardner to work with the State Department of .Corrections personnel, an architect and board representative Hubert Gilkey on plans for both renovating and expanding the current jail facility.
