Homecoming
Thornton’s Gap Regular Baptist Church near Sperryville will hold their annual homecoming services this Sunday, May 23, beginning at 10 a.m.
The pastor, Kirby Shenk, will have charge of the morning services and following lunch, Wayne Bryant of Luray will speak. The public is invited.
“Once Upon A Mattress”
The Front Royal Little Theater will present the musical comedy, “Once Upon A Matress,” at E. Wilson Morrison School on May 27, 28 and 29 at 8 p.m. An update of the old fairy tale about the princess and the pea, the production features several new faces and voices as well as a few regulars in the cast which numbers close to 30. Tickets are available at Dominion Kitchen and Bath, Mother Goose Shop and at the door.
Free Blood Pressure
Testing Offered
The Rappahannock County Health Department will provide free blood pressure testing this Saturday, May 22. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Emporium in ‘ Tyville. nigh blood pressure has been linked to increased chances for stroke, heart attack and heart and kidney failure. Hypertension (high blood pressure) is a controllable condition but can become life threatening if not detected and treated. The Health Department urges all community residents to take advantage of Saturday’s free testing service.
Museum Holds
Open House
The Thunderbird Museum and Archeological Park will hold its Third Annual open house on Sunday, May 23, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Open House is in recognition of National Museum Day, and this year the Museum offers free admission for all residents of Rappahannock and other neighboring counties.
The Museum features a dramatic slide show and several rooms of exhibits which take the visitor back to about 9500BC. The Park features the Corral Site excavation exhibit, nature trails through the 86 acres of parkland, and spectacular views of the surrounding area. Located seven miles south of Front Royal and 19 miles north of Luray, the Museum and Park are reached off U. S. 340 via Virginia Route 737.
The following weekend, folk music of Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley will be the main feature of the benefit for the Thunderbird Museum & Archeological Park to be held Saturday, May 29, from 2 PM and into the evening. The featured performers will be Madeline MacNeil and John Jackson.
Madeline MacNeil will sing a variety of songs with the mountain dulcimer and the hammered dulcimer. John Jackson and his country guitar will perform his unique country-traditional blues. A new band, “In a State of Flux", will also perform.
The Museum Benefit marks the beginning of the 1982 Excavation Season for the Thunderbird archeologists. For ticket information call 703-635-7337. All donations are tax deductible and will go directly to the support of the Museum & Park. Food and soft drinks will also be available.
