seem to share Rappahannock’s “short trouble.” according to McLawhorn. “I’ve heard that none of the teams have any real tall players.” she said. However, McLawhorn acknowledged that she hasn’t had a chance yet to scout her opposition. "They start tomorrow just like we do.”
“Mizz Mac”, as she’s known to students and parents alike, is a former little guard from her hometown high school in Roanoke. "All four years, we were district and regional champs. There wasn't a state championship then but we would have taken it if there had been one. We were winners, no doubt about it!"
That winning attitude helped earn McLawhorn the first woman’s basketball scholarship ever awarded by Longwood College. Unfortunately. medical problems ended her career as a player but the bouncy, ever-smiling brunette is determined to pass on her enthusiasm and talent for the sport to her RCHS girls.

Trout Stocking
Fall trout stocking has been scheduled for two area waterways, according to the Virginia Game Commission’s Fish Division.
Big Stoney Creek in Shenandoah County is set for stocking on September 2 and Hughes River in Madison County for September 3.
