Quick action by a passing motorist may have saved the life of a young woman whose car plunged into the flooded Thornton River during heavy rains Tuesday.
According to State Trooper Rufus Raines, Ann Alther was traveling eastbound on Route 211 early Tuesday afternoon when she lost control of her car while rounding a curve, hit a guard rail and slid into the river just in front of Charles Estes’ salavage yard at Sperry ville.
Nelson Lane, a member of the Rappahannock County School Hoard and candidate for the supervisor seat from Stonewall-Hawthorne District in November’s elections, was driving by when the accident occurred.
