No one dies who is remembered.
■ Since the Kidwell murder trial. I have been con, cerned about the memory of Ranee Spellman. The defense ^attorney would have us remember him as a man with a “violent” and “pugna! cious” reputation and a "jackal driving a bulldozer”. The only truth that 1 can find in that accusation is that he drove a bulldozer.
My dictionary defines pugnacious as “having the habit of fighting: fond of fighting; quarrelsome.” Why were witnesses allowed to testify before the jury about Ranee’s reputation but not allowed to recount actual incidents so that the jury and the public could come to their own conclusions?
Ranee was a greater or lesser part of my life since 1970. I was his wife from 1971 to 1979 and have always been his friend. 1 never knew him to be involved in a fight, pull a gun on anyone or be physically violent in any way. He was a man who grew up with guns, knew how to handle them properly and even taught me to be a marksman. He hunted game on rare occasions, much preferring to watch the game alive. When
