According to Rappahannock County Deputy, John Henry Woodward, Compton. a dump truck operator, ran off the right side of Rte. 020 near Scrabble between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m. Woodward said that Compton’s truck received only minor damage and that his death was not caused by the accident.
Woodward, who investigated the accident with Trooper Harry Newlin, said that it appeared that Compton suffered a heart attack, lost control of the vehicle on a sharp curve, and died of natural causes.
