Plans were underway for the
fourth of July celebration in Washington. Among the attractions were a patriotic program of singing and dancing on the library steps, a Pantry and Garden Shop, featuring homemade and homegrown foods, a Fine Things Shop and a Super Junk Yard.
Dotsie Davis organized a ladies clothing bazaar, featuring “attractive clothes in excellent condition at fabulously low prices.”
Marjorie Dahlgren put together the Tot and Mod Shop, predicting: “You can outfit your young ones for a song. Beat inflation with us!”
Two young men used an oriental style of foot boxing to foil the attempts of burglars leaving their home with stolen loot. Kim Burgers and Pong Sak Pullsuk came home to find an unfamilar car in the driveway. Sensing foul play, they quietly made their way to the house to witness flashlights hobbling around inside. They quickly took positions at the exits and as the robbers emerged through the rear door they were overpowered, tied up and delivered to authorities.
A two-room apartment was offered for rent July and August. With private entrance, bedroom, kitchen and bath, the apartment was on the market in the classified section for $75 per month.
