First to finish cutting out her pattern, Rappahannock student Debbie Pullen was reading assembly instructions for the next day’s project.
1 nstructor Phyllis Metzger was helping out at the machines where many of the students, unlike Debbie, had never sown before.
In all of the classes, kids were smiling and relaxed and instructors were delighted, all pleased with this change of routine.
"We think this is an interesting concept - vocational eduation for the gifted,” Bodine said. “We hope to do more in this field. After several years, we'll follow up with questions for the students to see if this summer course made any difference in their career choice or living skills."
Downstairs in the cafeteria, Malcolm Davis pointed out a major social advance in the relationships of the talented youngsters of four counties. “When they first came," he joked, “they divided into groups according to counties. Now they've divided into the normal seperation of girls and boys.”
