the last ten years he became knowledgable about cattle and farming. Ranee also learned the skill of being a farrier. Does this depict a man who looks upon his work as disagreeable and uninteresting? He was a man who worked from early to late and enjoyed and took pride in his work.
Ranee Spellman was not perfect, he never pretended to be. He was human like the rest of us. He was loved and evidently hated, too. Ranee could not defend himself at the trial in March or even on the morning of November 1). It was not in him to kill and I’m sure he had no idea that Diane Kid well was concealing a shotgun that would end his life.
As preparations are made for a new trial, it is my earnest hope that the jury will listen to all of the evidence and remember that it is Diane Kidwell who is on trial, not Ranee Spellman. Mrs. Kidwell has already convicted and executed Ranee Spellman for having an “awful look on his face”. He was not even given a trial!
