Awareness Week Set
Governor Charles Robb has designated the week of January 7-11 as Virginia's Financial Aid Awareness Week.
The goal of the campaign is to emphasize that saeistance Is available for college expenaea and to encourage s greater number of students to apply for those funds. The campaign is sponsored by the VhgbiiaAaaodation of Student Financial Aid Administrators.
Funds are available to help students pay for a four-year institution, community college, or vocational school of their choice. Students may qualify for scholarship, grant, loan, and/or employment money.
Family income is only one factor in determining if a student is eligible for assistance. The cost of the education (tuition, etc.), the numbet of family members, and the number in college all affect eligibility for assistance.
To initiate the process, students must complete appropriate financial aid forms for the school of their choice.
To assist students and their parents in obtaining information about * financial aid, a toll-free telephone line is being provided by United Virginia Bank. This service will be available on the evenings of January 8-10 from 7 to 10 p.m. The toll-free number is 1-800-662-9006.
In addition, a number of high school workshops will bo held during the month of January and televirion and radio programs will devote time to the ieeue of student financial aid.

The Rappahannock Humane Society has been certified as a corporatise by the state, and will be holding a» organisations! masting on Monday, January 1st 7:80 p.m. in the courthouse. 4,1
The meeting will be Dor the election of officers, and the organisation of the group. Anyone interested in being an officer or in nominating aomaana tor an office should call Vince Hannon at 967-4061. The society will be electiong a president, vice prerident, secretary and treasurer.

O Fire Department Meeting
The Flint'Hill Fire Department will hold a regular meeting on Wednesday, January 2 at 7:80 p.m. at the Flint Hill fire hall.
• Bloodmobile In Warrenton
flaafctna; to counteract the usual slowdown in blood collections during the holiday season, the Fauquier Chapter of the American Red Cross wul sponsor two Bloodmobties in the next week. The Bloodmobile will be at Vint HiD Farms Station on Friday, December 28, between the hours 9 A.M. and 12 noon, and three days later, on Monday, December 81, at Fauquier Hospital from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The public is welcome at both BloodmobOes. People from off the base should ask the guard at the entrance to Vint ICO the location of the Bloodmobile. At the hospital, the vehicle will be perked in the main parking lot at the entrance to the hospital. Anyone wishing to donate blood at the hospital is requested to telephone the hospital (347-2660, ext. 204) to arrange a suitable time, as space will be limited.
Although the holiday season, with its potential for accidents, can be expected to require many blood transfusions, its also is a period when, because colds are so prevalent, fewer donors are available. That is why the Fauquier Chapter hbpes that people who have not given blood in the past two months, will volunteer at Vint Hill or the hospital. More and new blood donors are sorely needed, chapter officials assert. They report that in the twelve months that ended Nov. SO, Fauquier Hospital used 1686 units of blood while in the same period residents of Fauquier and Rappahannock counties contributed only 1026 units.
Red Cross experience indicates that a population the size of Fauquier and Rappahannock (approximately 41,600) should be able to contribute a Mt more than 2000 units of blood in a twelve-month period. One of the problems is that in Fauquier/Rappahannock a relatively few people donate blood, something more than 600. Because many of them give blood more than once in a year, they manage to puah the Fauquier Chapter's annual blood collection to a little more than 1000 units. If only a fe w more people gave blood a few more times a year, chapter official* say, the annual goal of 1460 units could be achieved. Because the body replaces blood rapidly a donor can give blood aa many as six times a year, or once every two months.
