Board of Supervisor’s decision to condemn the 138 acres on Route €21 for the landfill. Irwin urged the commission to vote against the proposed landfill, and he told the commission that the RLEP had voted to offer ftmds for studies on alternate sites and ways to deal with solid waste.
Delbert Price, chairman at the CCRC, told the commissioners that a landfill at the proposed site would be in opposition to the interests of the county’s citizens. Price also said that besides having to listen to bulldosers operating every night covering the garbage, the residents of the area would have barking dogs since the county plans to locate an animal shelter on the landfill property. One suggestion from Price on dealing with the county’s solid waste was to ship the trash out to plants that convey waste into energy.
Another citizen, John Schultz, said that Orange County had begun a landfill and that within six months all of the surrounding wells had to be condemned. Gene Leggett from Harris Hollow told the commission that if
