there ere feasible alternatives to the landfill then the county should not be considering the matter. An area realtor, Eileen Day, said that the landfill would make selling land in the entire county harder which would affect everyone.

Planning Commission Chairman A.Y. Stokes advised the commission of a letter from Commonwealth’s Attorney Peter Luke which stated that the commission’s only inquiry on the landfill would have to be into whether or not the propoeed site would be in accord with the comprehensive plan.

With that in mind, the commissioners voted to recommend that the Board of Supervisors abandon the discussion of the proposed landfill site based on the proposed site’s conflict with the comprehensive plan. The commission listed each goal and objective that it considered contrary to the proposed site, and baaed the findings on evidence from the Soil Conservation Service, geologist Tinsley Mack, regional geologist with the State Water Control Board Jerry Sanford and another professional geologist.
