Mr. and Mrs. James P. Jamieson are the kind of people who Just never atop working. According to mends and associates, the Jamiesons are people who pick up on a project and roll with it to fruition. Fortunately for Rappahannock County, their labor often begins here.
For 1964, Mary and James Jamieson are the Rappahannock Afoot Citizens of the Year, selected by the news staff for their role in the betterment of Rappahannock County.
It’s a role that’s not limited to events that have taken {dace in 1964, although, had that been the only criteria, they both still would have been selected. This year, while Mrs. Jamieson continued volunteer work that has helped the Rappahannock County Library continue to grow, Mr. Jamieson also volunteered, helping the Water and Sewer Authority (WSA) secure bond financing that has ensured construction of a waste water treatment plant for SperryviDe.
Mrs. Jamieson’s work at the Rap* pahaimock County Library has touched every resident who’s ever walked through the door. Daring the 12 yean she served as chairman of the library’s board of trustees, from AprB 22,1970 to April 12, 1962, the library was transformed from a less than part* time operation to a more than fcH-tbne one, offering educational and recreational programs well beyond normal operating hours.
Virtually everything the library offered leaped to new levels during her tenure inducting the number of books owned by the library, the circulation of books and non-book materials, the* number of registered and active borrowers using the library ahd'hbrary sponsored lecture ind programs. Pos* her work, Mrs. Jsmieaon in 1961 was; named "Virginia Library Trustee of the Year" and “Rappahannock Trustee of the Decade."
