“I hope we can find the least worst site for a landfill,” said Mike Massie, chairman of the landfill site selection committee, in his report to the supervisors at Monday’s board meeting.
“We all hope Mr. Joyce (consultant Leonard Joyce) will find a trash disposal site outside of the county, but if that isn’t the case, we want to have a site here ready to go,” Mr. Massie told the supervisors. He noted that the special committee has advertised in local newspapers and worked with real estate agents who have listings in the county. “We’re focusing our search on land that is for sale,” Mr. Massie emphasized.
The committee has studied 12 sites and recommended additional evaluation for two: the Saltonstall tract off Route 622 and the Stover property, 99.75 acres off Route 639 near Amissville.
