Business Council to meet
The Sperryville Business Council will meet on Monday, Jan. 12, at 7:30 p.m. at Nona Gioia’s Restaurant. All business owners and interested persons are urged to attend.
Program on Nicaragua
A one-hour video on human rights in Nicaragua will be shown at the Middle Street Gallery Jan. 12 at 7:30 p.m. This is a tape of a recent presentation by Andrew Reding of the World Policy Institute in New York. Mr. Reding presents information not widely reported to enable U.S. viewers to better assess the activities of the Nicaraguan government. All are welcome; a donation to defray costs of operating the Gallery would be appreciated.
Enrichment classes
Enrichment classes will be held at the Child Care and Learning Center in January. The karate class deadline has been extended until Jan. 14 and the 12-session class will run through April 1 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. The body work sessions will begin at 6 p.m. with six sessions and registration must be made by Jan. 21. Heart Association to meet
The Rappahannock Unit of the American Heart Association will hold its kick-off dinner and meeting Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 7 p.m. at the home of Gil and Betty Webb in Amissville. The meal will be covered dish. The president, Mrs. Webb, urges all members to be present.
Workshop scheduled
The Conyers House in Slate Mills is sponsoring a seminar for innkeepers (or would-be innkeepers) this Sunday, Jan. 11 to begin at 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and will include lunch and a tour.
Topics to be covered include marketing, regulations, daily operations, house specialties and finances. In short everything you ever wanted to know about Country Inns.

Second Friday series
The Rappahannock County Library Second Friday Series will present sculptor Natalie Lewis, who will discuss the art of direct carving and display some of her works on Jan. 9 at 8 p.m. at the library. The library welcomes all, and refreshments will be served after her presentation.

Dim will be playing at the Gay Street Theatre on Saturday, Jan. 10, and Sunday, Jan. 11, at 7:30 both evenings. Starring Frederic Andrei, Roland Bertin and Wilhelmenia Wiggins Femandex, this dramatically photographed foreign film mixes love, murder, intrigue, passion and obsession and throws in a stunning sound track of opera and punk rock. A mail carrier’s obsession with a beautiful opera singer is complicated by his unintended entanglement in more sinister activities. If this sounds unusual, it is. Diva returns to the Gay Street Theatre by overwhelming demand. If you have seen this ljiovie, you know you want to see it again. If you haven’t, you should. The movie is rated R and cost is $3 for adults and $2 for children.
Landscape design school
A three-day landscape design school will be held Jan. 19-21 at the River Ridge Mall Community Room in Lynchburg. The three-day Course will cover many aspects of landscaping, from the design stage through planting. The course is co-sponsored by the Virginia Cooperative Extension Service, the Virginia Tech Horticulture Dept. awd the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs.
