A good start
The Board of Supervisors certainly ushered in the New Year with a bang at its meeting on Monday. The supervisors took action on several issues of great importance to county residents, and their work deserves credit.
By approving the capital expansion project at Rappahannock County High School, the board has addressed problems of space and inadequate facilities which have plagued the school for years.
By submitting recommendations to the Virginia Game Commission for changes in the game regulations in Rappahannock County, the board stated in no uncertain terms its feelings about the twin problems of an overpopulation of deer and the pressures which the county comes under because of its longer hunting season. *
And, by appointing A1 Henry as Jackson District representative to fill the vacancy created by the untimely death of J. R. Latham, the supervisors assured that the district will continue to be represented by a man who shares Mr. Latham’s deep concern for the values which Rappahannock’s residents cherish.
The board, with the assistance of its landfill site committee, continues to make progress on two fronts: examining out-of-county disposal methods, and alternative landfill sites within the county.
For a year which is less than two weeks old, the supervisors have made good progress on several major issues. We hope that, as the New Year progresses, the community will offer its support and assistance to our officials as they continue seek solutions to the difficult problems, facing the county.
