of the Northern Virginia area, bounded roughly by Fredericksburg on the east, Gordonsville on the south, the Blue Ridge Mountains to the west and the Maryland line on the north. It does not include the suburban Washington exchanges east of Fauquier and Loudoun counties.
Customers who choose one of AT&T’s competitors will receive two bills each month: one from C&P Telephone for local service charges and toll calls placed within the Culpeper LATA; and another for toll calls placed through the customer’s primary long-distance carrier. These would include intrastate calls made outside the Culpeper LATA, as well as all interstate calls.
While many of the services offered by the three companies are similar, there are a few differences.
AT&T Long Distance Service
The thrust of AT&T’s advertising campaign is that, by choosing AT&T, customers can continue getting “the same great service” they have become accustomed to for more than 100 years, according to actor Cliff Robertson, who serves as AT&T’s principal TV advertising spokesman.
AT&T’s services include direct dialing to more than 146 foreign countries, and the ability to complete calls with operator assistance to a total of more than 250 countries and territories, added AT&T spokesman Bob Sangster.
In addition, AT&T offers operator assistance 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in completing (ills, or for customers with misdialed, wrong number or disconnected toll calls. Immediate operator assistance, Mr. Sangster pointed out, is a service which AT&T’s competitors do not offer.
As another selling point, AT&T is touting reductions in rates which took effect at midnight, Dec. 31; the average drop is 11.2 percent.
