intervals, rather than the whole minute billing used for regular ITT customers. The card is designed for business travellers who spend more than $60 per month for calls outside the office. There is a one dollar signup fee for the card, and a 50 cent charge for each 950 number called.
Users of regular ITT calling cards must dial a local access number, the number which they wish to call, and finally the credit card number. ITT also offers WATS line service for high-volume business users, as well as private, dedicated lines for point-to-point communication.
MCI Dial “1” Long Distance
MCI Communications Corp. says that its “state of the art” fiberoptic, satellite and microwave network offers high-quality transmission, while offering savings of from “five to 35 percent versus AT&T’s high rates.” The company has recently invested $4 billion in “network enhancements and expansion.”
Like its long distance competitors, MCI bills its calls based on the time of day and the distance of the call. MCI has no monthly fee or minimum charges, and the company also offers a calling card for billing to a home or business while travelling.
MCI has a volume discount based on monthly charges and time that the call was placed. That discount begins with bills of $20. From $20 to $99 there is a two percent discount for both daytime and evenings calls. From $100 to $199, the discount jumps to 4.5 percent for daytime calls, and two percent for evening. For monthly charges of more than $200, the discount for daytime calls rises to six percent, while remaining at two percent for evening calls.
For business customers, MCI offers a range of services. Accounting codes, which will tie each call to a particular user, are available for a five dollar per month charge. Also available are WATS and PRISM services for businesses with highvolume needs which may be targeted geographically, or need a greater degree of cost-control.
In addition, MCI offers dedicated lines for transmission of voice, data or video information between specific points. The lines are available in either analog or digital modes.
MCI offers an 800 customer service number for questions about billing, which may be credited through that number. The customer service number will also handle other customer questions or problems.
