Lawrence E. Hitt Jr. of Warrenton, both charged with 13 counts of destruction of private property. The two pleaded guilty to the bashing of mailboxes in the Castleton and Ben Venue areas last November.
“This type of offense is very difficult to catch. It was only because a citizen saw them and chased them that they were caught,” Mr. Luke told the court.
“The message must be sent out —as a deterrent — if you destroy property that you will pay the consequences. Perhaps the clanging of the jailhouse door will have an effect,” the Commonwealth’s Attorney maintained.
“This was a senseless criminal act,” Judge Foley agreed. “You gained nothing by it. One thing that this court will do is to make sure that this is the last time that this court or any other sees you two as criminal defendants. I hope that the court makes this very clear today.”
He sentenced the two to 195 days in jail — 15 days on each count — with 191 of the 195-day total suspended on condition of the payment
