While funding for mental health programs no doubt will get its share of headlines during the 1988 General Assembly session, education issues are likely to steal thd show.
Virginia lawmakers will grapple with knotty educational matters during the 1988 session that deal directly with sex, money and politics.
The most difficult questions have been framed as state mandates-:
• Should Virginia require a comprehensive statewide sex ediflation curriculum for public schools? ^
• Should the state adjust the school aid funding formula to improve the lot of poorer jurisdictions?
“j • Should the state insist on a minimum perc tint age in annual salary increases for teachers to put their incomes on par with the national average?
| • Should Virginia mandate that all public
schools open after Labor Day in deference to the business sector, which depends on the student workforce to carry it through one of its most ^profitable weekends?
