They want your ideas
On this page, Representative French Slaughter and State Senator Kevin Miller express their opinions on some of the issues which face them at both the national and state level. But the opinions do not belong only to them.
Both men, along with Senators John Warner and Paul | Trible and Delegate Andy Guest, represent Rappahannock County. Their opinions, expressed in,print and in votes in the legislatures they are members of, represent the views of the residents of the county.
Or do they?
Only by hearing from the county’s residents can these men be certain that they know what the people they were elected to represent think. Of course, in a democracy , just because you tell your representative what you think they should do doesn’t necessarily mean that will be done. But, if you don’t try, you don’t have a chance.
Next week, Virginia’s General Assembly begins its 1988 session. Later in the month, the Congress will begin its year of deliberations. We urge our readers to take the time to call or write our representatives and let them know what you think about the many important issues facing them — and us. If you’re only concerned about one or two things, fine, let them know about them. If ypu’ve got a lot on your mind, tell them about it.
The important thing is to particpate in the democratic process. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ll win — but everyone loses if no one takes part.
