The main feature of the Friday evening program was the performance of the Christmas play, ‘The Talking Animals” by Wakefield’s 7th grade class. This play, written by 7th grade English teacher Pamela Lynn, was based on the legend that the animals present in the manger at the time of the Nativity are able to talk on Christmas Eve each year and relate the wonderful things that they witnessed.

The leading roles in the play were taken by Tim Roberts of Paris, Lucia Wilkins of Culpeper, Ben Martin of Shepherdstown and Julie Cudd of Signal Knob. The Friday evening program concluded with a benediction pronounced by the Rev. Albert Verbeke of St. Peter’s Church, Washington, apd a recessional hymn. The music for the program was directed by Bonnie Williams.
