adult must be at least 18 years old and able to handle the basics of selfcare. During the two-week trial period, they must demonstrate that they will be able to benefit from the program and show the potential for graduating from the downstairs group home to the supervised upstairs apartment in about two years. And they must be enrolled in a day program, usually either FORE’s sheltered workshop for the handicapped at Remington or the Community Services Board’s vocational training centers in Orange and Fauquier counties.
So like the other houses and apartments on East Piedmont Street, Goldsborough House bustles with activity early on weekday mornings as counselors and residents rise to make breakfast and beds and ready themselves for work. The Community Services vans stop for their last pick-up around 10 a.m., and then quiet settles on the sprawling frame building until 3:30 when counselors and clients return. The van from FORE is the last to arrive, letting off its passengers at 5:30. ; After 15 or 20 minutes to relax and catch up on the day’s happenings, the residents of Goldsborough House begin their evening chores and lessons.
