Amissville United Methodist will celebrate one hundred sixty years on August 13. The special celebration will begin at 10 a.m. There will be special singing and a brief message by the district superintendent, as well as church history. Plans call for “1829 Happenings” and many will be in period dress. Past ministers have been invited. Lunch “on the ground” will follow the morning service. Pastor Parker and the congregation invite . the community to enjoy the special day of celebration.
The Amissville carnival is set for June 28 through July 1. There will be a fireworks display on Wednesday night, parade will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday night, crowning of queen, prince, and princess on Friday night and drawing on Saturday night. Tickets for the drawing are being sold by the honorary fire chief (queen) contestants as well as by members of the Department. The prizes are $1,000, $500, two $50, and two $25. Winners need not be present to win.
