Girl award, the William Lynn Award for Academic Excellence, a writer’s award, the Greek award, and served as editor of the school’s yearbook and Talisman's poetry editor. She was also a member of the field hockey and ski teams.

After several weeks of work at Shrine Mount in Orkney Springs, a camp for the creative arts, Miss Whitworth will attend college at Dartmouth in Hanover, New Hampshire.

The commencement exercises, which will begin at 6 p.m., will be moved inside to the auditorium in the event of bad weather. A reception in the garden, hosted by the Wakefield Parents’ Association, will follow the graduation ceremony.

The commencement speaker will • be Russian-born Venezuelan businessman Harry Mannil, whose son Mikhel is a member of the Class of 1989.

The 68-year-old automobile industry tycoon led a colorful life before settling in South America and becoming one of its, as well as the world’s, leading political and economic trendsetters.

As a young man, Mr. Mannil escaped from Bolshevist Russia into Germany. Unhappy with the Naziled government of his new home, he fled again, this time settling in Venezuela.

His varied past has brought him into contact with leading political and economic figures around the world, including Soviet General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev.

"It will be interesting to have him talk with our students,” Mrs. Lynn said, “and give them and international perspective—not just east and west, but north and south as well.”

The senior class voted to abide by the school’s unwritten tradition and wear the school’s blue blazers with white slacks, and white dresses, for its graduation ceremony, saving their caps and gowns for later graduations when they complete their studies in higher education, Mrs. Lynn said.

Whorton gets

scholarship

Tonja Whorton, a senior at Massanova Christian Academy, has been selected to receive a scholarship in Computerized Accounting to Computer Learning Center of Washington.
