R A AC’s great summer event, the Rappahannock Talent and Variety Show, will go on stage this Saturday, June 17, with a dazzling array of impressive local talent.
The show, also known as the Allstar Revue, has been a tradition in Rappahannock County for over a dozen years, providing a showcase for serious and silly acts. RAAC’s sponsorship gave the show a permanent home - the Gay Street Theater.
Over the years, capacity audiences have seen gospel, pet tricks, belly dancing, home-grown comedy, orations, harmony, dramatic skits, stirring blues and instrumental performances ranging from rock and roll to acoustic. This year provides even more variety than usual.
By special request, RAAC program chairman Charlie Tompkins will appear with Linda Orfila and Joe Butler for three traditional pieces accompanied by guitar. Fans of Charlie’s and Linda’s perfect harmonies will look forward to this rare appearance.
Howard Coon, who has appeared in many dramatic productions at Gay Street, will read six originial poems.
Those who enjoyed past a capella groups at the talent show will welcome a newly-formed singing group composed of Beth Levick, Carol Lucking, Sherrie Albrecht and Linda Orfila.
A newcomer to the talent show, John Brandon will play two instrumental guitar numbers.
Dick Pierson of Amissville, familiar to many for his knowledge of old music, will read poetry.
Abigal Stage and Kami Rowan will present a dance accompanied by guitar.
Students of Cathy Kiley’s drama class will perform several musical and comedy numbers, as well as a magic show.
Other talented students will perform pieces on trumpet and clarinet.
Leslie Nichols returns to the theater with two classical pieces for piano, and John Kovac will perform a harp solo.
Guests at the annual performance always enjoy the homemade desserts provided by RAAC's bakers.
Tickets for the show, which begins at 7:30 p.m., will be sold at the gate the night of the performance.
