The ninth Conservation Reserve Program signup will begin July 17 and run through Aug. 4, according to Linda Henry, county executive director of the Rappahannock County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service.
The Conservation Reserve Program offers farmers the opportunity to bid to rent their highly erodible cropland to the government for 10 years in return for an annual rental payment. The crop land must be established in permanent vegetative cover or trees. The program also offers a 50 percent cost-share in establishing the cover or planting trees.
