CED classes start
Classes to prepare individuals to take the GED test will begin at the Piedmont Technical Education Center at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15. Pre-GED classes are given free of charge, but there is a onetime charge of $30 for the books needed for the GED classes. Classes will continue through April on both Tuesday and Thursday nights. If a person cannot attend the first night, then they should come the first Tuesday or Thursday that is convenient for them. For more information call 825-0476 or 1-800-371-7380.
Bailey reunion
Family and friends of the late James and Sarah Bailey will hold their reunion on Saturday, Sept. 12 at the Salem fire hall beginning at 10 a.m. Everyone is asked to bring a picnic lunch.„
Library series to begin
Rappahannock County Library’s First Friday series will begin on Sept. 11, actually a second Friday because of the Labor Day weekend. The first program is entitled “An Overview of the Grey Ghost.” Speakers for the program will include Jim Moyer, Tom Evans, Kenneth McAtee and Virgil Carrington Jones. The program will begin at 8 p.m. in the library’s meeting room, followed by refreshments and an opportunity to meet and talk with the speakers. Due to limited seating, it is recommended that you arrive early. Free admission.
Monarchs to play alumni
The Rappahannock Monarchs baseball team has challenged the Rappahannock alumni team in a game of baseball to be played at Rappahannock High School at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13. Admission will be $3 for adults and $2 for children. For further information call David (Scratch) Clanagan at 987-8937.
Support group to meet
Blue Ridge Head Injury Support Group will hold its second meeting at the Rappahannock Library from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12. “Our first meeting was a success so please come join us,” said a spokesperson. Families are welcome whether their injured member can attend. Call Pat Salmon at 675-3137 for additional information.
Barn dance planned
An old fashioned bam dance will be held by the Rappahannock Athletic Association from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Sept. 12.
The band for the evening is “Heavy Dreamer” with a special appearance by “Storm Wamin.” A buffet, bonfire, hayride, door prizes and set ups will be available.

RAA annual meeting
The Rappahannock Athletic Association’s annual meeting to elect a new board of directors will be held at 8 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Amissville fire hall. All parents of children involved in the baseball program are encouraged to attend. This meeting is open to the public.
Fundraising cook-out
The Sperryville Volunteer Rescue Squad will be holding a fundraising cook-out from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 5 and 6 at Sperryville Emporium. Available will be hamburgers, hot dogs, bratwurst with sauerkraut, chips and soft drinks. “Everyone is urged to come out and support the local rescue squad,” said an organizer.
Bake sale, car wash
The Flint Hill Fire and Rescue Company will hold a bake sale and car wash from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12 at the fire hall. Anyone wishing to donate baked goods should call Connie Huff-Harris at 675-3067.

Family reunion
The annual family reunion of the late Henry Taylor and Lillie M. Cloud Whorton will be held Saturday, Sept. 5 at the Rappahannock Park near Washington. All family and friends are welcome and everyone is asked to bring a covered dish.
Singers welcome
If you have experience with SATB music and like to sing special music, the Culpeper-Piedmont Choral Society directed by Lois Shanks would like to invite you to join us in our 26th year. •

Gun raffle underway
The Flint Hill Fire and Rescue Company is sponsoring a gun raffle. A total of 12 guns will be given away. Tickets are $10 each and may be purchased from any fire department member. The first gun will be given away in November.
