The pesticide collection campaign will be funded 100 percent by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services in conjunct tion with the efforts of the Virginia Cooperative Extension and is sched* uled for late summer, 1993. Mr* Cunningham noted, “It’s extreme^ important for farmers to know that if they did not participate in the 199$ survey that they must contact the Extension Office immediately in orS der to be eligible to participate in thd Cleanup Day. Only farmers who coQj tact the Extension office before Jung 1,1993 will be qualified to have their unusable pesticides removed.” «*
The County Agent stressed tGS importance of the program arftj wanted to lay to rest any concerns farmers may have regarding regulatory action. “It is perfectly legal to store banned pesticides regardless of container condition. Regulatory action only follows illegal use and improper disposal of banned pesticides; This program offers the farmers of Rappahannock County an economy cal means to dispose of banned and unusable pesticide concentrates left in storage on the farm, at no expense to the farmer.” 3
