Like Katzen

Rappahannock delegates to the Republican convention last week were upbeat and enthusiastic about the nomination of Jay K. Katzen for the 31st District seat in the House of Delegates.
Katzen, of Markham, will be facing incumbent Democrat Jerry M. Wood, Warrenton, in the November election.
Many delegates feel that Katzen has an excellent chance of returning the seat to GOP control. Robert M. Darby of Woodville, who unsuccessfully ran against Wood in 1991, seconded Katzen’s nomination at the convention. Darby, Katzen’s Rappahannock County coordinator said that he felt “very confident” about Katzen, who “is a hard worker.”
Other delegates share Darby’s views and optimism. Katzen is a “good candidate,” said Rappahannock committee chairman John Marocchi, “and we’re happy to seem him running.”
“We’re feeling upbeat,” said Walter Longyear of Washington. The party is “better organized ‘this year’ with many volunteers,” he added.
“He [Katzen] believes in sound and limited government,” said Harry Purdy.
