The Theater at Washington provided the stage for a splendid performance by the Potomac String Quartet on Sunday afternoon, May 16. Although the weather alternated sun and rain, the quartet gave consistently felicitous readings of compostitions by Haydn, Tschaikowsky and Beethoven before an enthusiastic audience.
The performance was all the more remarkable in that the musicians ranged in age from 12 to 15. Some of them have been studying and taking lessons since they were four, and all were serious, diligent and highly concentrated. They were not only individually well trained, but also they formed a closely knit ensemble with an attack, timing and expression that wrere highly professional.
