County Elementary School during the week of May 10-13, 1993, when children and staff were exposed to noxious fumes resulting from the roofing project. On Thursday, May 13, the school was evacuated and many children and at least one teacher were transported to area hospitals for treatment of illness resulting from the inhalation of these fumes. We ask that the committee interview children, staff, parents, and workers to obtain answers to the questions listed below’ and to make their findings public so that full disclosure can be made and responsibility can be assigned.
1) Was there a formal contract between the roofing company at the County of Rappahannock? Who was the contract agent for the County? Who was the project manager for each party? Did the contract include a provision that no hazardous materials should be on the site while school was in session, as is customary? Why was it necessary to begin this project now' when the school year will be over in another four weeks?
