state competition with a second place finish in the 3200 meter race in a time of 10:03. The first place finisher had a time of 10:02.8. Waters also qualified for regional competition in the high jump with a sixth place finish for jumping 5’6‘.
Sari Pellinen also qualified for regional competition at U.VA. this Friday with a sixth place finish in the girls 1600 meter race in a time of 6:18. The state track meet will be at VMI Saturday May 29. Coach David van der Graff said that Thursday’s weather with rain followed by cooling was good for long distance runners but hard for jumpers. “Two made it out in three events, and a few just missed,” he said. He feels his team has had a successful year and looks forward to a more successful team next year with more students competing.
