Baumgardner said that Faith Mountain is the county’s second largest employer and that they employ 60 employees, of which 56 are county residents. He said that rezoning will allow Faith Mountain to remain in the community, and that expected employment will be over 100 within a few years. In addition, expansion will have a favorable tax impact.
The proposed location is appropriate for expansion, he said, and the adjacent area will be “the focal point for future economic development in Rappahannock County.”
Martin Woodard, Faith Mountain vice president, said that the expansion and zoning raised three types of issues that needed to be discussed: the social-economic impact, legal zoning issues, and the visual impact.
“We want to be good neighbors*” he said, in reference to social-economic issues. He stressed that Faith Mountain provided local residents with employment oppportunities so that they did not have to leave the county to find suitable work. The company had a payroll of $600,000 in 1992, and will have a payroll of $850,000 in 1993. He added the company provides education benefits, profit sharing, health benefits for employees working more than 1,000 hours, and that the corporation contributes to many local non-profit organizations.
As for zoning, Woodard said that the expansion plot was within the Rappahannock County proposed commercial zone.
