The former students listed English, biology, mathematics and business and computer classes as the classes that had helped them most.
Although 20 said there was no subject in which they felt “unprepared,” five listed math and three listed English.
When asked how the school system could better prepare students for life after high school, students had a variety of suggestions. They listed more advanced classes, more literature writing and vocabulary in English classes, more SAT preparation and more emphasis on the arts. They also suggested more emphasis on education “instead of control,” “higher teacher salaries for better quality teachers,” and a fairer disciplinary system.
When asked if there was anything they would not change about the schools 17 said no, but some listed the small classes, close teacher-student relationships, and specific classes.
When asked if they had taken “advantage of the most challenging classes offered,” 24 said “yes” and eight said “no,” but 11 of the 24 hedged that statement.
Looking back 22 said they had not “put all you could into your studies and classes” and 10 said" they had.
